Alapocas Woods is one of my favorite local places for a nature hike. There, you can explore an open forest with beech trees that never loose their leaves (even in winter), rocky outcroppings and boulders for kids to climb, brooks to splash in, Brandywine Creek views, rhododendrons that bloom in late spring.... it's easy to forget that this park is situated basically in the middle of the city of Wilmington. Alapocas Run State park is also home to a museum were you can view Delaware's Folk Art Collection at the Blue Ball Barn. The collection showcases local history and period quilts. We are frequent visitors of the Can-Do Playground which is awesome for its a giant sand pit (when we go we take my little guy's dump truck and he is busy for hours). Additionally the state park boasts a blue granite cliff face (Delaware's very own state rock if you didn't know) for rock climbing. My kids have friends who have attending rock climbing summer camp there and raved about what a fun time it was.
I was so excited when this expectant family chose Alapocas Woods as the location for their late winter maternity shoot. This mama was absolutely stunning in her puddling, sleek red dress (which she got of Amazon) and the light couldn't have been more perfect.
